22 months old 2 days ago

We just got back from visiting Grandma and Grandad Rhodes in Fayetteville, NC. The boys had their own room so it was the first time we stayed somewhere that wasn't home and didn't have to sneak into bed. It was great! The boys had a ball playing with their grandparents and Uncle Clint and dogs Chloe and Chewy and Isaac knew which dog was which and called them by name.

Some of te extended family came over for a cookout on Saturday and all the kids played really well together. It was nice to see the boys get so engrossed in play with the other kids so we could be in another room and they didn't panic to find us. They did have a couple sleepy induced breakdowns but we tried to remember they were out of their element and how old they were and got through the weekend just fine.

The car ride up was good for the boys thought the weather was horrible and of course the opposite for both cases on the way home. Eden busted his lip on the front porch coming in from dinner Sunday night so it was probably irritating him, hence part of his seemingly eternal frustration on the way home. Overall, they were really good and we all had a good visit.

Monday moodiness

My mother's day: perfume from the girls, chocolate and flowers from Joey and watch from the boys

My teeth: stood up for this xray and it revolved around me!

Chalk Isaac and Eden - traced them laying down - took a little convincing...

My little troublemakers ;p

Yesterday was chocked full of all kinds of mood swings. The day started much the same as most except on the way down the stairs to get breakfast, Isaac decided to skip the last step and plant his forehead against the living room floor again, resulting in another nasty egg on his head. I comforted him as best I could and tried to put ice on it after they ate breakfast, but he squirmed and screamed the entire time. I had to leave them with Joey for the remainder of the morning while I went to the dentist for my bi-annual cleaning. The remodeled the back area of the office which looks really nice. I even got to enjoy the massaging chairs they installed. Once again, no issues, but I was again asked by the dental assistant if I ever had braces so that made me feel good.

After getting home, having some lunch and cleaning up a bit, the boys were awake and ready for lunch. Eden has been extremely picky, wanting only a select few items including peanut butter, bananas, and chicken nuggets. Isaac has picked up Eden's awesome (sarcastic) habit of spitting out food, but he still eats better that Eden, but opposite that, Eden will drink almost anything but we have to beg Isaac to finish his juice/milk. After I gave up getting them to eat more than a couple bites, I got them in the van and headed to the recycling center to drop off our latest mount of plastic milk jugs and cardboard cereal boxes. At a red light, an older man to my right remarked to me about how warm it already was and asked if I had a good mothers day. We chatted for a moment and I told him I did and he said "Thank God for mothers!" and just smiled. I thanked him, the light turned and we went on our separate ways. In a weird way, this made me feel good. I guess because a random stranger took a moment to acknowledge that I was a mom and that it was a hard job but was thankful that we do it. I'll take it as a random act of kindness.

We headed to Super H Mart for some produce after leaving the recycling center which is where the boys decided to kick it up a notch. It was hot as balls so they were uncomfortable and grumpy as was I so I sucked up being worried about making the gas last and turned on the AC. The calmed down and I distributed a snack while I collected my grocery list off my phone (Joey had to text it to me because I left it at the house) and he headed inside. The mother in front of me acquiring a buggy for her 3 kids was very loud and angry with them, which made me feel bad for the kids. I don't know what all was going on but I felt like she was getting angry with them for acting their age. I waited patiently and got mine secured in the buggy. Isaac usually sits on the interior of the cart and Eden up front when it only allows for 1 child to sit and he's usually very good, but this time, I had to constantly ask him to sit down and stop throwing out of the cart all the things I was putting into it. He usually just talks to and about what I put in and organizes it from side to side but he wasn't interested yesterday, He eventually got Eden in on the "fun" as well and started handing him things to throw out. My 15 minute trip quickly turned into an hour and when we finished checking out, I had to take them out of the cart and walk them to the car because can't just leave them in the car while I return the cart and it annoys me when people just leave them in the parking spaces. I got Eden out and had him hold my hand while I balanced my purse and the grocery bag on my other shoulder and tried to get Isaac out, Eden let go and tried to run off. I had to grab Issac quick which made me almost drop the groceries and try to catch Eden at which point Isaac was down and let go of my hand and turned away. I finally go a hold of both of them but determined at that time I am not capeable of taking them grocery shopping with my by myself any longer. I pick up my nephew twice a week after school so it will have to wait until those times or on the weekends or evenings when Joey's not working.

On a happier note, Eden is starting to speak more. I know that a lot of his tantrums and frustrations come from not being able to communicate but there isn't much we can do other than keep motivating him to talk. Uncle Adam brought over a Gigiball Sunday night and they tried it out for the first time yesterday. Eden loved it and was constantly in and out of it, but Isaac really wasn't interested. He also hates being barefooted on the grass. We took them out after dinner and Isaac acted as if the grass was molten hot lava. We moved a sprinkler to the middle of the yard which Eden was all over and soaked and giggly within two minutes, but Isaac took a little coaxing - and shoes.

It's only a couple months now until our annual family birthday/crazy busy season. In June is Joey's birthday, quickly followed by our anniversary and the boys birthday in July, then mine in August. So far September is free but in October we'll b in Manteo, NC for Rodney and Stacy's wedding, then in November is my dad's birthday and Thanksgiving and then about a million birthdays in December, a friend's wedding in Puerto Rico, Christmas, and then New Years is here and before you know it it's my mom's birthday, etc.

I thought the older the boys got, things would get easier because they would be more independent and I would be able to spend more time with them, thus time would so slow down a little. Boy was I wrong!

21 months

That's how old they are now. The running, jumping, chicken nugget and banana loving little monkeys that I get to hang out with every day. I am so thankful that they love to take baths and rush to get ready for bed to see who gets to brush their teeth first. The love to sing songs and do all the hand motions to them. They think that getting to watch their shows is a treat and get excited when I put on an educational DVD for them with words. The LOVE being outside and beg to go out as soon as we're done with breakfast so they can hunt for the smallest and biggest rocks they can find while enjoying a good dirt bath in the midst of the hunt or between chalk drawing. They (most of the time) enjoy playing with each other and can spend countless mornings and pre and post naps tossing their stuffed puppy dogs back and forth at each other in their cribs and giggle and jump up and down while screaming at the top of their lungs.

They love their real dogs and most mornings Eden will lay beside Delila on her dog bed in the livingroom and pet her, and she'll just lay there when he decides the only way to get up is by crawling over her. My first baby will be 10 years old in October and I'm so glad she's getting to experience all the love and affection that kids give their pets. Polli will be 8 on the 21st and has started playing with them a little more. They love to chase her and try to grab her tail, which most time she'll oblige with being chased.

Tonight before dinner, we held hands as usual and said our blessing but this time, Eden wanted to give me a kiss afterward, which is very rare. Isaac will give kisses when I ask for them, but I have to steal them from Eden, so this really melted me. Not more than an hour later though I was trying not to fling him across the yard because he wacked me in the head with a plastic gardening hoe; I was playing with Isaac and not him I guess. He went into time out and got a thorough tongue lashing, I think it may have scared him a little. He hit me in my blind rage rage spot of my head with the edge of the tool though, so he's really lucky he's not a part of the fence right now (I'm kidding of course).

I'm so blessed to get to be the mom of these two little men and can't wait to see what the future holds for us. They'll be 2 soon and then before you know it, they'll start school and I'll have to repaint the house again to keep myself busy :) More than that though, I am so blessed to have such an awesome and amazing husband who is able to financially support us so I can stay at home with them and manage the house needs. I love even more that he's able to work from home most of the time so while his hours may run late some nights, at least he gets to spend time with the boys in the evenings and not with traffic.
